 What is Capable Communities?

Capable Communities is a 501-(C)(3) Non-Profit devoted to assisting the progression of literacy rates amongst special needs children, specifically in low-income areas.

Many academic institutions lack the proper resources to support children with learning disabilities. At Capable Communities, we acknowledge this issue and strive to fix it. We create partnerships with many bookstores and libraries to receive gently used books. Furthermore, we host fundraisers to purchase puzzles to add to the reading kits. Once our volunteers assemble these kits, we locate schools and foundations that support special needs youth and donate our kits to their programs.

Who Have We Donated To?

We’ve donated over 450 kits containing books and puzzles to educational institutions and foundations. A few institutions we’ve donated to include:

Bay Area:

  • Skyline High School

  • Oakland Technical High School

  • Oakland High School

  • Montera Middle School

  • Montclair Elementary School

  • Boys & Girls Club of Oakland

Southern California:

  • Boys & Girls Club of Anaheim

  • Boys & Girls Club of Santa Monica

  • Boys & Girls Club of Los Angeles

JJ is one of our most dedicated volunteers. Here, he is delivering kits with books, puzzles, fidget toys, and worksheets to a summer school for kids with autism.

Here's an example of what we offer in our kits. We provide kids with educational books, colorful animal puzzles, and fidget toys.

CEO/Founder

Hi, I’m Milan. I am a High School student in the Oakland Unified School District and work as the “Head of SPED (Special Education) Inclusion” at my public high school. I initiated this non-profit after witnessing the lack of educational resources in underprivileged special needs classes.
